Manado, N Sulawesi, June 1 (Antaranews Sulut) - The Indonesian Centre for Food and Drug Supervision (BBPOM) of Manado is monitoring the sale of Eid-Al Fitr parcels in North Sulawesi province.
"There are many parcel businesses before the religious festivities," said the Head of BBPOM of Manado, Rustyawati, here on Friday. Usually the parcels contained food that was ready to eat. "We keep watching to ensure the parcels did not contain foods past their expiry dates," said Rustyawati.
Every day, a special team from the BBPOM conducted surprise inspections. "We will continue to coordinate with the local government in protecting the consumers from harmful products," she added.
The Head of the Domestic Trade Division of the North Sulawesi Industry and Trade Agency, Hanny Wajong, said the agency too had set up a special team to monitor all food products ahead of Eid-Al-Fitr. "In addition to overseeing traditional markets, we also supervise retail and self-service retailers to ensure they sell decent products to the public," he said.
Before Ramadan, the agency had asked distributors, supermarkets and retailers to pay attention to the expiry dates of goods and ensure they were in good condition and did not violate the Consumer Protection Act. *** 3 ***
