Raja Ampat, W Papua, Feb 14 (Antaranews Sulut) - PT Telkomsel will develop a broadband network in the tourist area of Raja Ampat in West Papua in 2018.
"Starting from 2017, we will only develop a 4G network in Raja Ampat District," Manager of Telkomsel Relations Media Aldin Hasyim noted at a Telkomsel 2018 gathering here on Wednesday.
Hasyim remarked that Raja Ampat`s local people had begun using smartphones.
"Although the village in Raja Ampat District is part of an island-based province and isolated, the local people have already grasped the technology," he stated.
He further added that the use of smartphones had recently increased.
Raja Ampat District has 40 thousand customers of which 17 thousand still use 3G and 4G networks, while the rest are 2G users.
"Growth of internet services in Raja Ampat has been high, so we view that as an opportunity," he added.
The Base Transceiver Station in Raja Ampat spreads across 11 spots offering 2G, 3G, or 4G services.
Telkomsel has a branch office in the Waisai area to provide services, with 320 outlets.
