Ankara, May 17 (Antara/Xinhua-OANA) - Turkey on Saturday shot down a Syrian aircraft over violation of Turkish airspace near Surian border, local NTV broadcaster reported.
Turkish fighter jets fired at the Syrian aircraft which downed on the territory of Syria near Dursunlu and Emek villages of southern Hatay province of Turkey, NTV quoted Turkish military sources as saying.
The military sources said the Turkish military was investigating the type of the Syrian aircraft.
In 2013, Turkish warplanes shot down a Syrian helicopter at the border region between the two countries after the helicopter allegedly violated Turkish airspace.
In June 2012, the Syrian air defenses shot down a Turkish fighter jet that reportedly penetrated the Syrian territorial water.
