Manado, N Sulawesi, March 20 (Antara) - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Dwisuryo Indroyono Soesilo said diesel power plants (PLTD) would be built in four frontier islands in North Sulawesi.

"The four islands Marore in the district of Sangihe, Miangas in Talaud, Marampit in Talaud and Makalehi in Sitaro are among 50 frontier areas that need PLTDs," Indroyono said here on Friday.
Indroyono said the island of Marore in Sangihe needs 50 kilowatt, Miangas in Talaud needs 50 kilowatt, Marampit also in Talaud needs 50 kilowatts and Makalehi in Sitaro needs 100 kilowatts.

"The government hopes that the PLTDs have been operational before the 70th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in August" he said.
Indroyono said the development of the power plants in the outer islands is part of the maritime development program.
"Our maritime development vision is to make Indonesia a strong and modern maritime country and become a world maritime axis," he said.
Earlier, when visiting the Sebatik island in North Kalimantan, the minister said development of frontier areas would be accelerated.
"President Joko Widodo also stressed the need to develop frontier areas and a budget of Rp12 trillion per year should be effectively used for frontier areas," he said.
