
El Nino Threat Must Be Managed

Manado, North Sulawesi, April 2 (Antara) - The threat of El Nino must be managed well because it is feared to inflict threat of food security in North Sulawesi, according to local Trade and Industry Department Chief Olvie Atteng.
"In anticipation of the El Nino threat, the Trade and Industry Department will continue to monitor the activities at both traditional and modern markets, and coordinate with food distributors to ensure food security," she explained here on Wednesday.
Olvie noted that the El Nino was predicted to hit Indonesia this year and therefore anticipatory measures should be taken in order to ensure that it does not affect agriculture and food security adversely.
She added that the government should explain to the people about the impact of El Nino phenomena on agriculture and food security.
However, she added that the El Nino will hit the eastern part of Indonesia, and thus people in that region should be prepared for its impact.
