Manado, N Sulawesi, Sept 5 (Antara) - State electricity company PT PLN has readied generators at several points in support of the Manado Fiesta that was inaugurated by the Home Affairs Ministry`s Director General for Regional Autonomy, Sonny Sumarsono, over the weekend.

"We have placed generators to support the Manado Fiesta at several sites where the event is being held on September 2-10, 2017," Manado area PLN Manager Paultje Mangundap remarked here on Tuesday.

He said the PLN supports the Manado Fiesta by providing electricity to ensure the success of the event, as the fiesta is part of the government`s program.

According to Mangundap, PLN fully supports all government programs in the provinces, districts, and cities.

"For the Manado Fiesta, PLN will do its best to prevent power outages during the event," Mangundap said.

According to the Home Affairs Ministry`s Director General for Regional Autonomy, Sonny Sumarsono, the Manado Fiesta is a national tourism event to help develop Manado City and North Sulawesi Province.

"Manado Fiesta is an excellent national tourism event for the development of Manado and North Sulawesi," Sumarsono remarked while opening the event on Saturday.

Sumarsono said he was pleased to witness growth in Manado since he took over as the acting governor of North Sulawesi in 2015.

He expressed hope that by holding the national event of Manado Fiesta, the center of the North Sulawesi provincial administration would become better and serve as a shared home for all its citizens belonging to various ethnic backgrounds.

According to Sumarsono, the Manado Fiesta is expected to become an annual national event that can boost tourism in Manado and North Sulawesi.

In the meantime, Manado Mayor Vicky Lumentut expressed gratitude to North Sulawesi Governor Olly Dondokambey and Deputy Governor Steven Kandou, especially the central government represented by the regional autonomy director general, for offering support to Manado to organize the Manado Fiesta.

The Manado mayor also invited all parties and stakeholders to make the city their home in line with the theme of the event.

"Let us make Manado our home and build a better city in future, especially in terms of tourism," he emphasized.

The Manado Fiesta features various supporting attractions, such as FisCo, food, fun-music, fashion, flying, fair, and faith-related events.

FisCo is a carnival to showcase the underwater beauty of the Bunaken National Marine Park, Manado`s main tourism destination.

The carnival will be followed by various government agencies of districts and cities in North Sulawesi as well as institutions, such as banks, hotels, and local and national companies.
