Tomohon, N Sulawesi, July 5 (Antara) - The Tomohon city government in North Sulawesi Province has set up a culinary tourism location to cater to the interests of local and foreign tourists keen to embark on a culinary tour.

In the cities of Tomohon and Mando, the visitors will be able to explore various traditional culinary delicacies with well-chosen combinations of flavored herbs and spices, such as garlic, ginger, basil leaf, and lemongrass.

Along with other related agencies, the Tomohon city government has set up a culinary tour location in the Pasar Lama complex at the city center.

Local government assistant for economic affairs Ronni Lumowa remarked in Tomohon that some culinary shelters are being built, and work on some others has been completed.

"The Tomohon city government hopes that all business actors utilizing the culinary shelters would be able to maintain cleanliness and sustainability of the area in order to attract more visitors who enjoy the culinary tour," Lumowa remarked.

The former expert staff of the mayor of Tomohon noted that the sustainability of the area and the hospitality shown by business players contribute to attracting tourists to Tomohon City.

"This culinary area is one of the tourist destinations in Tomohon City, and if it is utilized properly, it will positively contribute to the economic improvement of business actors," he remarked.

Further, Lumowa added that the city government continues to promote the development of the culinary tourism area in a bid to contribute to achieving the target of tourist arrivals in the city of Tomohon.

Comprising 44 villages in five sub-districts, Tomohon is a hill resort located some 25 kilometers east of Manado, the capital of North Sulawesi Province.

Its land contours, cool weather, and fertile soil encourage the local community to cultivate various types of flowers and vegetables.

Hence, Tomohon City is known as a producer of flowers, and when in season, the flower gardens of the local inhabitants look alluring.

The culinary center in Tomohon is being managed optimally to welcome thousands of local and foreign tourists during the upcoming Tomohon International Flower Festival in August 2017.

With thousands of tourists visiting Tomohon during the international flower festival, it will make the city, with a population of over 100 thousand, one of the international tourist destinations in Indonesia.

Development of the tourism sector in Tomohon is part of the government`s vision and mission, and hence, the international flower festival is an effort towards achieving them.

Mayor of Tomohon Jimmy F. Eman revealed that he was making all-out efforts to optimally promote the international flower festival, so that it can showcase its own charm to the tourists visiting the city.

"We laud all stakeholders who have expressed their readiness to support various tourism development programs in Tomohon, which annually holds the international flower festival," Eman added.
