Central Lombok, E Nusa Tenggar (ANTARA) - The Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia at the Mandalika International Street Circuit should spark the revival of the tourism and creative economy sector, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahudin Uno has said.

The international racing event should also support the recovery momentum, he said.

"The 2022 Mandalika MotoGP should have a significant impact on the growth of the economy," Uno noted here on Saturday.

The minister said he expects the presence and support from the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry to bolster the empowerment of entrepreneurs, specifically owners of local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

"We have to ensure that this MotoGP can bring (about a) revival of optimism, and we need to maintain the momentum from our economic recovery," Uno said here on Saturday.

The government has conducted several programs to empower local MSMEs such as providing training and improving their competence in order to attract tourists, he noted.

"We have to be able to present quality products that can certainly become the momentum of our economic recovery," he said.

For promoting creative economy products, the ministry is also holding a showcase called the "Planogram Goes to Mandalika" at the MotoGP venue.

Through the showcase, tourists will be able to purchase creative economy products by scanning the barcodes available on each product.

"There are 300 products from fashion, craft, and culinary sub-sectors within the Planogram Goes to Mandalika," Uno informed.

Indonesia MotoGP is the second series of the 2022 World Championship. The first series was held in Qatar at the start of March 2022.

During the first series, Enea Bastianini, a racer from the Gresini Racing team, Italy, won first place.

Gresini Racing is also collaborating with the ministry to promote Indonesia's tourism and creative economy sectors.

As part of this collaboration, Wonderful Indonesia logos have been put on the front wings of motorcycles belonging to the Gresini Racing team.
