Manado, (Antaranews Sulut) - Bank Indonesia, (BI) as the central bank, along with other Indonesian banks, launched the National Payment Gate system (GPN) in Manado City, North Sulawesi Province (North Sulawesi).

"The launch of the GPN in North Sulawesi coincided with the moment of the 73rd Indonesian Anniversary, as this system was created in the national interest, so it must be launched soon after in Jakarta and other big cities," said the Head of BI Representative of North Sulawesi, Soekowardojo, in Manado.

Soekowardojo noted that people in North Sulawesi who have a debit card can immediately replace them with those displaying the GPN logo.

He added that domestic transactions using the GPN system could be carried out effectively, even though the issuance of GPN debit / ATM cards was still being put in place in stages by the bank.

His party also requested support from all parties. The implementation of the GPN is the basis for the future payment system in Indonesia.

BI, banks and the government will continue to conduct joint cooperations, so that transactions with GPN debit / ATM cards can run smoothly starting this year.

He noted that the benefits of GPN debit / ATM cards will be felt by customers, merchants, and banks. For example, customers and merchants can benefit from the savings in transaction fees on EDC (Merchant Discount Rate / MDR) machines.

Further, he said, the fee of MDR for transactions on different EDC bank machines is only 1 percent of the previous 2-3 percent. In fact, the imposition of zero percent MDR will be applied to the disbursement of social assistance funds (social assistance) for Beneficiary Families (KPM) participating in the Family Hope Program (PKH).

Soekowardojo emphasized that the implementation of the GPN is not intended to protect domestic transactions from foreign switching companies, but to strengthen the creation of a payment system that is more efficient and safe for the community.

He explained that external businesses were still welcomed to do business in Indonesia. However, all domestic transactions, when appropriate, will use routings through Indonesia.

Chairman of Perbanas Sulut Merlin Maya Lumangkun said Perbanas Sulut strongly supports the BI program, especially GPN in North Sulawesi.

"We will continue to educate and socialize this system to enable customers and the community to understand," said Merlin, who is also the Head of the Bank Danamon Branch of Manado.

Merlin said Perbanas would take part in the GPN system, because of the average number of Perbanas members who have enrolled in the system. *** 3 ***
