Manado, N. Sulawesi, (Antaranews Sulut) - North Sulawesi representative of Bank Indonesia said demand for cash during the Eid Fitr holidays totaled Rp2 trillion in the province.

"We could meet the demand as we had been ready with Rp2.9 trillion," a deputy at North Sulawesi representative office of Bank Indonesia Buwono Budi Santoso said here on Saturday.

Buwono said demand for cash during the religious days rose from the same period in 2017 when demand totaled only Rp1.86 trillion.

"Demand for rupiah during the Ramadan and Eid Fitr days rose 7.5 percent year-on-year," he said.

He said the demand for cash during the religious days was only 69 percent of the amount prepared by the North Sulawesi representative of the Central Bank.

Head of the Central Bank representative Soekowardojo said the increase in demand for cash contributed to economic growth in the region.

The high demand for cash would help push up economic transactions in the community, he added. (AS)
