Tomohon, N. Sulawesi, Oct 31 (Antara) - Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita expects five thousand traditional markets to be built across Indonesia by 2019.

"This year, more than 1,200 traditional markets will be built, and in 2018, the number is expected to reach four thousand, and in 2019, we are aiming to build five thousand markets," the minister stated in Manado, North Sulawesi, on Tuesday.

The minister remarked that the traditional markets are established to offer services to the people and boost the income of small-scale businesses.

"The construction of these traditional markets is also aimed at ensuring equitable development," he said.

Traditional markets have become one of the backbones of the people`s economy in Indonesia.
