Tomohon, North Sulawesi, July 18 (Antara) - The Tomohon city government in North Sulawesi Province is preparing a "Smart City" master plan to be implemented in 2018, local Communication and Informatics Office spokesman Hengkie Y. Supit remarked here, Tuesday.

"This master plan will be a technical assistance product that will be implemented in the near future," Supit said.

According to the spokesman, the technical assistance product is a follow-up of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Communication and Informatics and the Tomohon city government that was signed last May.

"After the signing of the MoU, the Tomohon city government has coordinated and taken steps related to the implementation of this smart city program," he remarked.

In the meantime, Mayor of Tomohon Jimmy F. Eman has expressed optimism that the smart city program would boost the empowerment of sustainable human resources in the city of Tomohon.

Tomohon City has followed the assessment phase since early May of 2017 and is worthy of being one of the 25 target areas of the "smart city" program.

Tomohon, with a population of more than 100 thousand people, and the city of Makassar in South Sulawesi were selected as representatives of WilKom 6 that includes Sulawesi, Ternate, and Papua.
